It is with deep sadness, yet humble acceptance of God’s will, that we announce the passing of Rev. Fr. Joseph Gatamu, Director of the St. John Paul II Sabbatical Program and a priest of Kenya’s Catholic Diocese of Nakuru.
Fr. Gatamu was instrumental in shaping the Program into what it is today, having served as Director since its inception in August 2013. A great teacher and mentor, he was deeply committed to the ongoing renewal of clergy and women and men religious, and he believed profoundly in the beauty and necessity of rest, reflection, and spiritual renewal for those in ministry. With wisdom, compassion, and quiet strength, he accompanied many through seasons of reflection and restoration.
We give thanks for his life of service and commend him to God’s eternal mercy. We also pray that the Lord grants comfort and peace to his family, colleagues, the people of God in Nakuru Diocese, and all whose lives were touched by his ministry.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
